Before he started on the journey to change his body and improve his health, Tom had never been on a diet, but knew that the city lifestyle of regularly socialising and eating out after work was taking its toll.
By his own admission his diet was ‘pretty appalling.’
Looking for a new challenge, he discovered UP, and after only 12 weeks he’s completely changed his physique, and his state of mind. The full testimonial of his 12 week journey is below.
What were your expectations going into the 12 weeks and what were your motivations?
Based on my understanding of UP and the product it offers, I knew it was going to be hard. I was really looking for a new challenge to see what I could achieve in a three-month period and ultimately if I had the discipline to stick to the program.
What was your diet and lifestyle like before you started the 12 weeks?
As can be typical in Hong Kong both were not great to say the least, as it is definitely a city were socialising and eating out after work can be a daily occurrence. I had never been on a diet before, and since training at UP I have learned that my diet was pretty appalling and it was certainly starting to catch up with me.
How did your diet and lifestyle change when you started the 12 weeks?
A lot! I was strict with the meal plan that the trainer gave me. Just eating a lot of meat, fish and vegetables for the first few weeks was not exactly what I would call fun, but once I started to see the results (which were evident after just a couple of weeks) it became much easier. Needless to say I had to cut out the lager and the choice of restaurants I could eat at had to be culled.
What effect did this have on your health, performance, lifestyle and energy inside and outside the gym?
I immediately noticed I was sleeping soundly through the night, which is something that I had not done for years.
I felt far more sharp at work especially in the mornings.
Although I’m not going to lie the carb deficit early on definitely made me a little more grumpy!
How did you find the training and did it fit around your busy lifestyle?
The training was excellent and I was surprised by the attention to detail provided.
I was looking forward to every session and the atmosphere created on the gym floor just meant that you wanted to push yourself harder than I had before.
The PT had a detailed record of your performance in previous sessions , and it was satisfying when you were able to beat these.
Flexibility was no problem, I was travelling a fair bit with work, but as long you gave sufficient notice I was always able to move the sessions around to fit.
What were the most important things you learned during your 12 weeks and what really worked for you in helping you make your transformation?
The importance of diet, and that it you don’t get this right it doesn’t matter how much time you spend in the gym.
Being made to take a photo of every meal and send it to my trainer really did help me keep on the straight and narrow.
It was evident that the trainer has a huge desire to get the best results he could for me, and this meant monitoring me both inside and outside of the gym.
Would you recommend UP and why?
Undoubtedly, as above it is the attention to the client outside of the gym that to me sets them apart.
Needless to say I had to cut out the lager and the choice of restaurants I could eat at had to be culled.
