When Andrei suffered a heart attack at the age of 47 it was a grave wake-up call.

It forced him to confront the very real prospect of dying before his time, unless he drastically changed his ways.

It shocked him into action. He began taking his fitness seriously and managed to bring his weight down from 235lbs to 190lbs.

But that’s where he got stuck – and despite several years of personal training and diet control, he couldn’t break through his weight loss plateau.

With his injuries and heart issues, Andrei took things slowly when he first started at U.P.

His trainer kept the intensity low and concentrated on getting his diet right before gradually ramping up his exercise routine.

He was with us for 39 weeks and lost another 38lbs and half his body fat in this time.

With Andrei losing 7 inches both on his waist and hips, the change was striking, to say the least.

It was a dramatic change from the ‘old Andrei’ and his old lifestyle habits which had been holding him back and harming his health.

“You know you get married, there are kids and one is busy with work, and you never think of taking care of yourself – you never think of what you eat, your lifestyle, sleep, or alcohol.

 

 

“And year-by-year, you reach a point where you have a heart attack at 47. I was very big – 235lbs – and I didn’t feel good.

“So I said to myself ‘are you going to live or do you want to die?’ And then you know I started exercising.”

“The minimum I came down to was 165lbs. But my weight keeps going up and down; it never stayed down. I start losing weight, and then I would get injured – my shoulder or my knee – and it would all stop.”

U.P. cleaned up his lifestyle and got him back on track with a sustainable training routine.

Andrei started to see results, and this time when his usual complacency set in, his trainer was on hand to keep him motivated.

“But here I was happy to see that if I’m doing something wrong, my P.T. stopped me and showed me how to do it properly.

“But at the same time, you’re still being pushed outside your comfort zone. Usually, in personal training, you have someone pushing you for an hour and then you leave, and that’s the end of it.

“What’s different here is that you have someone working with you 24/7 – pushing you outside your comfort zone when everyone else is saying ‘Andrei, you need to relax a bit’.”

Andrei’s trainer helped guide him through all the road bumps along the way to a place he had never been before.

 

 

“When people are complimenting you, something in your brain tells you ‘dude, I’m good! I look good; my suit looks good!’

“So I became a bit complacent and started cheating – a glass of wine or a little bread.

“My P.T. got me through that phase. I knew I wasn’t 100% at my goal. No matter what others said when I opened my clothes, and I knew I wasn’t done yet.”

As his body changed, Andrei not only found himself becoming more energetic and active but also gained a newfound respect and admiration amongst his friends and family.

“A lot of people lose weight, but their shape doesn’t change. At U.P. I finally saw my abs pop. I don’t know how to explain to you, but trust me it’s an amazing feeling.

“And this is the thing you know that you can change yourself so completely. I am half the person I was at 47. It’s hard to wrap my head around that.

“A lot of people thought I’m too old. I will say this to everybody; it is never too late to change. It doesn’t matter how old you are, even if you are 55, like me, you can accomplish your goal at any age.”
